5 Ways to Style The Basic Tee
Are you a jeans and tee kind of girl? The first step: give yourself options other than your college sorority t-shirts. There’s a whole world of cool ways to style a t-shirt out there, so we pulled inspiration from a few of our favorite bloggers to see how they rock the basic white tee.
See a style you love? Ask your stylist how to recreate it in a way that works for you!
#1: Paired With a Cardigan
Grab a cardigan and a scoop neck tee. This classic combination - just like your favorite pumpkin and spice latte - will carry you through the Fall. Add your favorite mid-rise or high-waisted jeans and tuck in your t-shirt for a clean, comfortable, classic outfit. Or, do the half tuck (one of our favorite tucking techniques). Wear this look on the weekend at your son’s soccer game or for a casual date night. A large cardigan works perfectly with this look and will keep you warm and cozy no matter where your weekend takes you.
#2: Over Your Favorite Boyfriend Jeans
You love your comfy boyfriend jeans just as much as you love your white boyfriend tee. Did you know you only need one more accessory for this outfit to be party ready? Add a pair of special shoes. Wear nude heels with a dark wash boyfriend jean for a dress casual outfit. Or opt for something bolder with a strong shoe to liven up this neutral look.
#3: Edg-(tee!) With Leather
We love the fashion juxtaposition of (faux) leather and a t-shirt. It's unexpected and incredibly chic. Work in a creative environment? Rock it on Casual Friday with your favorite simple sneakers. Headed out for a girls night? This is a great option to pair with your best heels. We love the way August Diaries pairs a long trench jacket over top for added visual interest. This look is perfect for cocktail hour, a business casual work party or a big night out . Leather pants more your jam? Just make sure your tee hits at your mid-to-low bum area!
#4: With a Skirt
This is one of the easiest looks you can do. Rock a basic tee with one of your favorite skirts - no matter the silhouette! A pencil skirt, midi skirt, a-line skirt and circle skirt all work great! It's a stylish casual look that looks great with a statement necklace or minimal jewelry. Tuck it in, or do the side knot pictured here for a fun look. Leading us to our next styling tip!
#5: Knot Your Typical Tee
We're loving this fun way to wear a tee! To create this look, tie your loose fitting t-shirt on the side so that the shirt comes in just above the largest point of your waist. This helps you look slimmer and actually creates an hourglass shape . You can wear a knot on the side of your body or directly in the middle. Pair your knotted tee with a jean skirt or high wasted pant to create a not-so-serious, super stylish look.
With so many options you can say yes to the tee and keep your inner "t-shirt-and-jeans-girl" style alive.
