Tell us a little about yourself.
Hi, I’m Yusra! It’s so weird to be writing about myself for a change! I’m a sophomore in college, planning on studying journalism to hopefully enter the realm of editorial fashion, with an emphasis on communications, in the future. I love all things fashion, from magazines, runway shows, to even TV (So Cosmo is probably one of the most entertaining shows I’ve watched EVER). Aside from that, I plan on starting my own t shirt business where I design aesthetically pleasing but politically charged shirts to bring attention to social issues. I also have a passion for health and fitness, and my two cats Ermenegildo and Hermès (both named after designers)!
Describe your style?
That’s tough! I’d like to say my style is very eclectic, but that’s just a better sounding way of saying it changes depending on my mood and varies a lot. If I had to get to the root of it, however, I would say I tend to stay up to date on all the latest streetstyle, so that means lots of athleisure, fur coats, high waisted pants, and either sneakers or heels, there is no inbetween. My style is pretty out there and far from what most people would wear everyday, but hey! If I want to wear a fur coat with a sweatshirt maxi dress and sneakers I will! Think Bella Hadid, just way more toned down.
What’s one of your favorite pieces in your wardrobe and why?
Probably my pink marabou fur coat! A lot of people think fur coats are hard to wear but I think they’re a great way to elevate any look. I can wear that coat with a cute dress and some heels for a night out, or with a matching set of sweatpants and sweatshirts and minimalistic sneakers for that casual but high fashion vibe. It’s one of my best investments for sure.
Favorite ways to spend a sunday?
I hate sundays. Mostly because I end up having to do tons of last minute homework that I’ve procrastinated on. My ideal sunday, however, consists of waking up around 10 am, having a smoothie, going to the gym, coming home and showering and wearing pajamas (yes, even though it’s not night). After that, I’d probably just spend time with my family and cats, then watch some netflix in bed. Nothing fancy, but sometimes you need those laid back lazy days!
What are you most excited about doing at Ready Pretty?
Writing! I love writing and want to share my ideas on different fashion related topics, hopefully making a positive impact on our audience and helping a few women find their style! I am also excited to play out my ideas of different campaigns we can do and how to help make our audience grow in size. Mainly, I just love fashion and style and want to be a part of something that helps other women grow into their own fashion senses.
What’s your favorite fall/winter trend?
I feel like I’ve talked about fur coats way too much, so I’m going to skip that one. So after the resurgence of fur, probably booties! I love, love, LOVE a good heeled bootie. I’ve found that not only are they so easy to style with literally anything, they are way more comfortable than normal heels. As someone who wears high heels all the time, I translate that into high heeled booties for the fall and winter, and there is something about the bootie silhouette that makes them so much more comfortable, even if the heels are the same height! I can literally walk around the city the whole day in my heeled booties without pain, and that is a blessing.
Any advice for women trying to find their style?
Don’t shy away from what you truly love. Your style is your style for a reason. It is personal. It reflects who you are and your personality. You shouldn’t let your assumptions of other people’s perceptions of your outfits affect what you wear. Once I started being more bold and true to myself in my fashion, I was definitely scared. Wearing a baby pink sweatshirt, matching sweatpants of the exact same color, and a pink fur coat is not normal. I realized that and I was scared. But I also realized that i really, really love the color pink and that I liked the way I looked and felt in that outfit and decided to rock it on a night out. People did stare, but you know what? I got way more compliments on that look than I ever did before then. Be confident, own what you love, and wear it with pride, because “weird” looks are the last thing you will get. It’ll be more like people are looking at you in awe.
