What to Wear When It’s Hot Outside, and Freezing Inside
Hello summer! The sun is out which means you can finally store away all that winter gear to make room for your stylish summer-ready RP picks! We can’t be the only ones that struggle with the common warm outside, freezing inside office situation right? One minute you’re sweating on your commute into the office, the next (upon sitting down at your desk) you’ve got goosebumps all over, frustrated that you didn’t toss a jacket into your bag.
Today we’re sharing our stylist-tested (and approved!) tips for what to wear when it’s hot AF outside and freezing inside your office. You’re welcome.
#1: Keep a Jacket At Work
Well, duh! This one might be too obvious, but if you haven’t already, do it! I keep a basic neutral blazer (mine is navy) hanging on my desk chair at all times, and then actually have a small little blanket (yes, I did say blanket) that sits in my desk drawer for when I really need to warm things up. I’ve never run into a situation where the blazer can’t work with any outfit that I’m wearing.
#2: Go with the Flow
Opt for flowy silhouettes like wide-leg pants and pleated skirts. Typically these shapes come in fabrics that are breathable for when temps rise, but still offer coverage when you’re feeling chilly. A higher waist, silhouette is such a classic, perfect-for-work look that blends both style and function.
#3: Smart Combos
One of my favorite combinations for this exact conundrum is using smart layers. For example, pair wide leg culottes + a tucked in long sleeve tee + longer vest + sandals for a super chic and weather ready look. Chilly in the office? Keep your sleeves down and use the vest for added warmth. Headed outside for lunch? Push your sleeves up and leave the vest at your desk! It’s a simple way to take on and off what you need, when you need it.
#4: Pay Attention to Fabrics
Jerseys and silks are perfect for summer weather and also work well when the temps start to drop inside. Again, they add the coverage you need for chilly indoor environments but are breathable enough to wear outdoors too. Adding a great jersey wrap dress or silk trench coat are great additions to any summer wardrobe.
#5: Restyle your Button Down
One of our favorite laying tricks? Restyle your button down by wearing it over a summer dress. Knot this go-to shirt to create a stylish and warm layer to your dress. Throw it on when you need it, take it off when you don't!
